Compasses
Inn
Station Rd Gomshall
Guildford Surrey GU5 9LA
We
visit the Compasses fairly often
This is a friendly country pub with a stream running alongside and a
pleasant garden, serving a selection of real ales and hot and cold food.
There is a sign outside that says food available all day, but beware
- there are certain times of the day when food service stops, we are
never quite sure about these times! The cold food and snacks are excellent
but the hot meals can be a bit tasteless, particularly the Sunday roasts.
Good sized portions though. Although the real ales are good here, the
Guinness could do with a bit of improvement, a bit on the bitter side.

Although the cold snacks are good here, sometimes it is nice to try
something else, and usually it is fairly safe to try a jacket potato,
however, this time it was not such a good idea. the potato was cold
and slightly undercooked in the middle, and not a very nice one.
January 2003
Still being optimistic after a good meal in France the day before we
decided to try a hot meal. We ordered a large filled Yorkshire pudding
(Contains veg, gravy and sausages) The sausages were hard at the ends
as if they had been cooked for too long in a microwave, or reheated
badly. We also ordered a cottage pie which looked nice, unfortunately
it wasn't. It was a good size but tasted nothing like cottage pie. It
contained baked beans and sweetcorn and tasted of some kind of sauce,
sweet and overpowering the meat. It resembled cottage pie only in looks
and was pretty revolting to taste.
Mental reminder to myself DO
NOT ORDER THE HOT FOOD AGAIN, IT IS ALWAYS A MISTAKE!!!!
